The modern domestic cat originally owes its place in the household of modern humans to the ancient Egyptians, who domesticated wild cats as a means of keeping down vermin populations such as rats and snakes. Gradually, the cat gained reverence and importance within Egyptian society, leading to them having the same mummification rights as humans after death. They played an important role in Egyptian mythology, being used as tribal totems leading to them becoming deified and sacred. It became an offence punishable by death to kill a cat, even accidentally.
Cats have become important within most other cultures, too, ranging from Islamic and European to Japanese culture. Wherever you hail from, we aim to celebrate this glorious creature through the medium of jewelry. We hope that you will find a design that will suit your taste and confirm your status as a cat lover.
